This bunch of grapes cost 6,000 yen or around US$ 50.00. That was about $1.50 per grape.

Those are 10 year old kid's fingers, so the grapes look a little bigger than they are.

The grapes were a little smaller than a golf ball. About the size of a ping pong ball. The skin does not taste good. The inside was quite sweet and seedless.

I had no idea what we bought. Isn't that silly?

I've never tried but my friend talks about eating them all the time in Georgia. She says they're much larger, the skin is thicker than a normal grape and it almost crunches like a plum.

Our tourist guide told us to go into that store to check it out. He said if we bought some, the experience would be something to talk about for a while. He was quite right. I believe the grapes were one of the cheapest items in the store. To me, the mango looks more attractive, but it was just too out of reach. At least, we could share the grapes more easily.

At these prices you'd think a lot of japanese would have scurvy or something.

Not all the fruits are expensive. Only the top quality, green house grown and hand picked fruits carry an outrageous price tag. It is like Barry Bond's home run balls. Not every baseball has a high price tag.
