Mohingar - Burmese fish and vermicelli soup

For the xmas potluck. We had this fish (tilapia) version and the vegetarian version.

Email me for the recipe if your interested.

Add-ins to the soup: cilantro, hard boiled egg, lemon wedge, fried onions, fried bean, etc.

We also had tofu thoke, but I think I uploaded it before...

Fish "gravy" soup is poured over the noodles.

ahahaha......I can't even eat this stuff anymore....my mom makes it too much...but i always get the beia-jio(deep fried bean fritter?)

yeah, we only have it during potlucks for the holiday. i like the beai-jio too, it stunk up the whole house.

I see no banana tree trunk....do you guys normally eat that stuff? I'm not very fond of that either....and I don't know why people like it.

Yeah, there's no tree trunk w/ the soup. I've prolly have banana tree trunk, usually I don't know what I'm eating in the food my parents make. I'm not sure what the banana tree trunk tastes like..

What does banana tree trunk taste like? I'd imagine it would be really hard and fibrous?

VNese eat banana blossom sliced thin in salads or as garnish for soups.

It actually doesn't taste like anything, it's more of a texture thing...it is fibrous....but it's meant to absorb the flavor of the fishy broth/gravy...

Ah, I like the spongey fibrous texture of bac ha in my seafood soups for that same reason. :)

It's food from Burma, which is a south east asian country, between India and China. Lot's of fish sauce, shrimp powder, lemon grass, cilantro, coconut ingredients.
