Home grown pineapples. You can grow pineapples by cutting off the crown (thorny leaf-top), peel off the leaves until the roots are exposed, and potting it in sandy soil. It will take approximately 2 years for the cutting to grow into a pineapple. You can speed up the process by adding growth hormones and planting it in a humid environment like a greenhouse.

You need to keep the soil moist, so just check the soil to determine whether it needs water. Drench the soil if it is getting dried, but DO NOT OVER-WATER! Or else, the plant will drown and die. Water more in the summertime and less in winter. For young plants, watering once a week is sufficient since there won't be enough root growth to absord the water. Rule of thumb: if soil is dry, water it. If soil is moist/wet, leave it alone. First few attempts of growing my own pineapples only produced pineapple bushes with no fruit. On my third attempt, there was pineapple fruit and now, there's pineapples every year! :)

Great tips. I haven't been watering my pineapple plant lately and was thinking it was neglected. I can't wait until it starts bearing fruit. :)
