No, not really..but it's got some salt, pepper & the "black Star" (not sure what it calls) and actually tasted pretty good!

It's in pho? and is one of the Chinese 5 spice ingredients. See? You probably have a bigger palate than you think, as long as we don't tell you what you're eating. ;)

I don't mind it as flavoring. It's just that when you bite into it... it tastes really wierd. Do you actually eat it?

No, you don't eat it. Well, it's ground up in 5 spice powder, but otherwise, it's discarded. It's also the principle ingredient in roast duck.

Hehe. How else did you think 5 spice powder worked?

The 5 spices are ground star anise, ground Szechwan pepper, ground fennel seeds, ground cloves, and ground cinnamon.

It's also in beef stew. And I know you like beef stew. :)
