Have you tried Trung Nguyen brand? I know I've mentioned Cafe du Monde before. And go heavy on the condensed milk. It's rather sweet and thick to me.

I have seen it in the store, but wasn't sure which Trung Nguyen variety I need. Do you know?

I'd start with the arabica and robusta blends b/c those are the most popular. A big canister should run you about $3.99. I saw them at the San Gabriel superstore. Trung Nguyen is like Starbucks in VN, so you should be able to find it everywhere. Also, they're sold in smaller packets so if you're trying to match the flavor, you might want a variety.

How strong are you making it? For one cup of coffee, my dad uses 3 heaping tablespoons. Eeek! That's too much caffeine for me but concentration makes a big difference. Are you using the VNese filter? A French press also works. You don't want a coffee maker b/c the filter will absorb all the oils, and that's where the taste is.

Haha! Or maybe I should have asked what you have tried before deluging you with tips. :)

Yes, I use the NVese filter and pack in as much coffee it will hold. I'll buy those small packets and let you know how it goes, thanks

Also, quickly run the filter under cold water so the grounds swell up. Just a quick rinse, don't fill it up with water. This slows down the dripping process so it's more concentrated. When the cold water drains, then pour in your hot water.

yes, I drip it very slowly. When I add a lot of condensed milk, it's too milky and not that sweet...blah

Not sure it makes a difference, but most VNese put the condensed milk at the bottom of the cup, and let the coffee drip on top of it. Which brand are you using? Longevity with the old man seems to be most popular.

Hehe, I'm glad I'm not so particular about my coffee...
